Speaking of RB26, I was thinking should I do a SR20 swap or go RB26 for the S13(not currently owned by me or anyone I know, and not for a couple years either). I think an SR20 would keep the balance of the car but an RB26 would be so much fun!!!

He stayed on the gas just a little to long when it started coming back around.

My exact thought. "Good, nice, okay, nice let off the gas.. okay off!... OFF!"

See below for my Son's SR20 going in his S13, about this time last year. I think the RB swaps are a little more complicated then the SR20. Here in the US KA parts are darn near free, SR parts are marginally affordable, and RB parts are a little more precious. He has plenty of fun with the SR.

I am looking into building a purpose built track machine out of a S13. I don't want to much power just around 400hp. I like the idea of plentiful parts, I was looking up headers for these cars and I found some for a hundred bucks!

Yeah not too much power, you know just about 400 horsies stomping the rear tires into dust. . . . .

So do you want a time attack machine? or a drift monster? If you want to go the time attack route get a beat up spec miata and go learn how to handle the dynamics of driving. It is really hard to grasp the fundamentals in a high horsepower car. It is by far better to learn in a slow car how to go fast than learn how to go slow in a fast car. After you get your jollies out in the spec miata ( they are actually pretty fucking quick once you get the hang of them) then work on building an RB26DETT S13.

Well, you can fit a 9" tire in the rear, and some sticky rubber should keep all that power at the rear. People have done it with the FRS. Still, I can't say what works and what doesn't mostly cause I don't own one.

honestly, turbocharge the KA24DET as that would be cheaper and easier, and thus less likely to become another abandoned S13 project.
but, if you want to go the swap route, the SR20DET is cheaper, has more aftermarket upgrades, was designed to fit in the chassis so it can be done with factory parts, has been done far more frequently than RB-series swaps so there is a wealth of information online, etc.
otherwise, the RB25DET is much cheaper and easier than the RB26DETT to swap into a rear-wheel drive car it was never intended to be transplanted into, and you'd still get the coolness factor of having a Skyline motor in your car.

I want a time attack machine! What if I do this with a beaten up S13? I could keep the KA24 for a while, but at the same time get things that will help add a ton of grip. Then once I master that shiz, then start adding power.

it won't let me ninja edit it, but the SR20DE was in the Sentra/200SX, so common parts are readily available in the USA, unlike parts for RB-series motors.

That works, I was just trying to get someone into another miata. . . . hahahaha. But seriously when you start thinking about it and have the capitol to start a track dedicated car look into if any spec miatas are for sale on the cheap, they are already built and have everything done safety wise plus after you are done using it as a learning tool you can sell it with minimal loss to the next person. . .

I was just messing with you. But 400 is a decently powered car. It also takes a decent amount of money to build a 400 horsie motor that is reliable. . . Especially under hard track use conditions.

I wouldn't be opposed to a Miata, maybe later in life. This obviously isn't going to be happening now as most my money goes to what some people would call "necessities" I call them bullshit!!! The Miatas sound like Lotus Elises though. My dad was going to buy one 2 years back(even though this isn't the car for him) for 25k, but he didn't. Now he could have sold that one for 30 to 35K!

What Miata was that? I don't know of any NC's that appreciate like that. Even the V8 Miatas have a hard time fetching that price. But my miata knowledge only really pertains to the NB and to a lesser degree the NA. You can pick up NA's on the cheap and same with beat NBs.

Oh wait, the elise? Yeah those fuckers are appreciating and not losing any value as long as they are kept up.

Yeah I meant the elise. My dad hates convertibles and anything made in the 90s which is why he didn't let me get a S13 or a Miata.

I rebuilt the ka in my s14 before the electrics completely shit the bed on me, previous owner left the back glass out for several months... Rust.. Just everywhere... So hidden.. Much sad.
ANYWAY I would look into keeping the ka. My buddy ran me through the reasons one night, but i was kinda drunk, but it was decided that the ka is a more solid motor. Mine was built to handle around 30lbs of boost (only aiming for 20 lol) and embiggened to 2.51 liters, and it cost like 1500 in parts. He mentioned things like you can't float the rockers, so properly balanced the damn thing can hit ridiculous rpm, and the spare parts availability is ridiculous.
That being said, I bought it with an RB20 in it, and while I felt the weight difference, it wasn't that bad between the two. With an rb26, you can find a bunch of Nissan parts bin things if little stuff goes wrong, but good luck finding anything at a local store. I had to do a lot of part number matching and wrecked car finding, or sketchy ass eBay.
For the cost, and when I do it again, I am going ka all the way. Cheaper, more reliable, still good for 400+ to the wheels with enough tweaking.
That's my 2 cents though.
Then again the rb series is like angels crying above 5k rpms. Its just beautiful.
